This decision relieved European and East Asian allies, who were torn between the necessity to decouple from Russian energy and the Administration’s domestic political play. In a significant development, energy giant Shell signed a 10-year agreement to sell USLNG to the Swiss-based energy company MET Group. This agreement bolsters the long-term relationship between the United States and its European allies. As Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine, its role as an LNG supplier remains a significant source of leverage over NATO members.
