U.S. Energy Linked to Geopolitics
The Need for Commonsense Energy Policies (RealClear Energy)
Caruso (June 20): The U.S. energy sector is in a precarious position today due to increasing geopolitical volatility and strong energy demand forecasts. Geopolitical chaos has had very real repercussions for everyone. The United States needs to stop hamstringing energy companies and invest in the nation’s infrastructure. Encouraging oil exploration and production can help offset foreign risk factors.
The pause on LNG exports has had an especially chilling effect on investment in both the facilities, as well as upstream. The ban should be lifted so that the United States can expand its export footprint, thereby contributing to foreign nations’ emissions reduction.
Today’s geopolitical uncertainty highlights the importance of insulating our energy security. Supporting domestic energy production and infrastructure now will pay dividends in the long term and smooth the transition to much lower greenhouse gas emissions. Link to Content
