USLNG Developers React to Export Pause
US LNG developers react to White House pause on issuing new LNG permits (S&P Global Commodity Insights)
Corey Paul, Giselle Rodriguez (Jan. 30): The Biden administration’s decision to pause new USLNG export licenses has elicited responses from several USLNG developers. NextDecade, one of three USLNG developers to reach FID in 2023, stated that the moratorium would have “no impact” on its Rio Grande LNG project in Texas. The company is working on a two-train expansion of Rio Grande and faces a February 2027 DOE deadline. Tellurian, the developer of the proposed Driftwood LNG terminal, highlighted its non-FTA permit in a Jan. 29 letter to shareholders. “As we get closer to completing construction, we plan to adjust the in-service date condition under that license to accommodate our construction timeline,” Tellurian Chairman Martin Houston said in the letter. Their permit is set to expire in May 2026.
It remains to be seen how this pause will affect any future projects as a heated election season takes center stage. Link to Content
