Pause – Gift to Competitors

USLNG License Pause Benefits Competitors: Execs (Argus Media)
Julian Hast (Mar. 20): President Biden’s pause on new LNG export terminal permits is seen as a boon to U.S. competitors. At CERAWeek by S&P Global, Chevron’s Colin Parfitt said: “This is bad for the United States, good for Qatar.” It creates uncertainty about the United States as a reliable supplier. Freeport LNG’s Michael Smith warned that buyers making long-term decisions will look elsewhere if USLNG projects don’t have their permits. Despite DOE Sec. Jennifer Granholm’s assurance that the pause should be short-lived, industry leaders anticipate a politically motivated delay similar to one under the Obama administration. The pause has drawn bipartisan criticism and is seen as backfiring politically for Biden. Link to Content
