LNG Pause overturned
Judge Halts Biden’s Delay on LNG Export Projects (AP News)
Matthew Daly (July 1): A Louisiana judge, U.S. District Judge James Cain, Jr., has sided with 16 Republican-led states, granting a preliminary injunction that puts the Biden administration’s delay of USLNG export approvals on hold. The pause was enacted earlier this year, aligning with environmentalists who fear an increase in exports could lock in potentially catastrophic planet-warming emissions. The states opposed, including Louisiana, Alaska, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming, sued in March, claiming the administration was violating the U.S. Constitution and other federal laws by banning the exportation of LNG to countries without a free trade agreement. The ruling comes just days after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved what would be the nation’s largest export terminal for LNG, Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass 2 southwestern Louisiana project.
