House Passes Bill to Kill Pause

U.S. House Passes Bill to Reverse Biden’s LNG Pause
Jacob Fischler, Louisiana Illuminator (Feb. 16): On Thurs. (Feb. 16) the House of Representatives voted 224-200 to approve a bill that would preempt President Biden’s pause on new USLNG export permits. The pause, which has no specified end date, is in place while DOE reviews its criteria for its public-interest evaluations. The pause has been criticized by Republicans and some energy-state Democrats. Advocates for the bill argue that USLNG releases fewer climate-changing emissions than coal, and U.S. production and exportation closes more of the European market to Russian-sourced LNG. The bill, sponsored by Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX), would remove DOE from the USLNG licensing process, leaving FERC solely in charge. Link to Content
