GIIGNL 2024 Report

The International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) published its 2024 Annual Report which compiles the key figures and trends of the LNG market in 2023. Key statistics:

  • Net LNG imports reached 401 mt, 2.1% growth, a slowdown from the 5.6% increase in 2022.
  • Spot LNG trades totaled 141 mt, representing 35% of LNG imports.
  • This growth was driven by Asia and the Americas whereas Europe’s demand remained stable.
  • The United States became the top LNG exporter with 84.5 mtpa.
  • Regasification capacity got to 1,143 mtpa with 17 new regasification terminals in 2023.
  • Liquefaction capacity reached 481 mtpa.
  • Four final investment decisions (FIDs) were taken in 2023 for a total of 38 mtpa.
  • There were 772 LNG vessels at the end of 2023 (+41).
