New Fortress Energy: Groups Urge FERC to Shut Puerto Rico LNG Terminal (E&E News)
Arianna Skibell (March 11): Ten Puerto Rican environmental organizations, as well as UTIER, a labor union representing local utility workers, yesterday (March 10) filed a complaint with FERC calling for the agency to exercise its “broad range” of authority and weigh an order to shut down the facility. The groups, which are represented by Earthjustice, allege that New Fortress unlawfully failed to consult with local municipalities and citizens before starting to build the LNG import terminal.
The New Fortress facility supplies natural gas to industrial users and microgrids as well as to a neighboring power plant owned by the PR’s monopoly utility, PREPA. Link to Content (Subscription)
Rio Grande: NextDecade Extends Agreements with Bechtel (S&P Global Platts)
Harry Weber (March 09): NextDecade extended agreements with its EPC contractor that will give it more breathing room as it tries to secure sufficient commercial support its Rio Grande LNG export project in South Texas. The extension keeps the pricing in the EPC contract with Bechtel in place until Dec. 31, 2021, and the EPC contract, itself, remains valid until July 31, 2022. Link to Content
Sempra LNG: Joins Leading Collaborative to Advance Methane Emission Science
Sempra LNG recently joined the Collaboratory for Advancing Methane Science (CAMS), an industry-led research consortium formed to better characterize and understand methane emissions. Sempra LNG joins CAMS members Cheniere, Chevron, Equinor, ExxonMobil, Pioneer Natural Resources, and Shell. Link to CAMS Website
